Federal IRS rules allow that charitable gifts – both cash and property – can be claimed as tax deductions. Page 3 of IRS Publication 526 spells this out plainly, “Generally, you may deduct contributions of money or property you make to, or for the use of, a qualified organization.” The IRS only allows deductions made to qualified tax-exempt organizations, such as 501(c) (3) entities and other eligible organizations.
